Hey small businesses, we've got good news for you: Consumer drive to shop local is huge. A recent survey found that 82 percent of consumers now regularly shop at their neighborhood businesses and 48 percent plan to increase their use of local businesses over the next year. (Sourced from Yodle)
As a draw, respondents to the survey reported quality, service, and trust as the top reasons they’re attracted to local businesses over major retailers — even if that means not getting the "best" price. Yes, 77 percent of those responded do believe that national chains can offer more competitive prices, 72 percent still stated they're willing to pay a local business more for better-quality work. Consumers equate local businesses with superior customer service and trustworthiness. Ninety-six percent believe local businesses beat big-box stores on personalizing service and 91 percent think they’re more trustworthy and reliable. But that doesn’t mean small businesses can stay idle — quite the contrary. As the overall retail landscape becomes more sophisticated and connected, consumers now expect more out of their local businesses. 92 percent of shoppers in another independent survey stated they choose businesses to frequent who have a purpose bigger than themselves, or essentially bigger than just making money. They want to know that by shopping at your store, they're helping make a difference. Here's a huge way where NPS can get involved.
